Hello, December.

With your arrival, every household begins knitting sweaters; that cosy winter month starts with you, when we all sit together under quilts listening to stories from our grandmothers. The taste of tea feels more special in the evening than in the morning, when everyone gathers around the fire, sipping tea and sharing conversations. With your arrival, jaggery and peanuts begin to be sold on every street. Yes, with your arrival, even the warmth of the sunlight has started to feel so pleasant. Yes, with you comes our sweet and cosy winter indeed; you are exceptional to all of us.

You are just like that evening when the sun sets, yet even in that sunset, there remains a positivity—that the morning sun will rise again, and with its new rays will shine positive energy upon all living beings. Truly, every month of the year is special, but to be honest, December, you are more special, because it is always after you that a new year begins. The story of starting a new year in everyone’s life begins with you. Where I live, even if children don’t get holidays in other months, it doesn’t matter—but in your month (December), winter holidays are a must. Now half the month has already passed, and in just a few days we will all step into the new year. May this new year be filled with positivity and happiness, and since the preparations for the new year begin in you, December, you are truly very special.

Dear Readers,

The past months and passing years have taught me a lot—sometimes sweet, sometimes sour, and sometimes bitter. From all of this, I’ve understood that nothing lasts forever. Life is both joy and sorrow, two sides of the same coin. So spend every moment in happiness, because the time that has passed will always be remembered, but it will never return. Live fully, stay happy, and let the past become like the sweet pages of a diary filled with cherished memories.”

  1. This is a truly heartwarming and beautifully written reflection. Your words wrap the reader in the same warmth you describe—quilts, tea, fireside conversations, and the gentle wisdom of grandmothers. December comes alive not just as a month, but as an emotion, a shared memory, and a quiet promise of renewal. I especially love how you capture the softness of winter evenings and the comfort of small rituals that make life feel deeply human.
